Meet Your Instructor: Ellen Knolls
Ellen is a passionate artist known for her vibrant and expressive work. While she enjoys a wide range of subjects, Ellen’s true passion lies in animal portraits, particularly cows, a love that stems from her childhood visits to her grandparents’ dairy farm in Centerburg, Ohio. Her unique style blends realism with expressive brushstrokes, aiming to bring out the personality in each piece. Ellen often adorns the heads of her animal subjects with flowers, a personal homage to the animals’ contributions to humans. She predominantly works in oils, appreciating the medium’s flow and extended drying time, which allows her to perfect each detail. Ellen recently applied her artistic talents on a larger scale, completing a mural commission for Butcher & Rose, a new restaurant concept in Columbus, Ohio. Her hope is that her creations bring as much joy to others as they do to her.
